Nature!

Photographing landscapes and nature is what originally drew me into a love of photography. Unable to make a living as a nature photographer, I became a daily newspaper photojournalist. Yet, I found time in my career and my private time to seek a connection with nature through my cameras. While working as a breaking news photojournalist, finding a beautiful photograph each day softened the stress of covering tragedy. Best yet, my nature photographs found a place in my publications and I got paid to pursue my original passion.

Desert Landscapes and Super Blooms

Since I live in Southern California, in suburban Orange County, some of our greatest weekend road trips have been to nearby deserts in search of wildflowers. These images were taken in the months of March and April, over several years, in Death Valley National Park, Anza Borrego State Park, and Joshua Tree National Park. I think it’s about time to get out there again!

Santa Ana River Walk

For the past three decades I’ve spent many mornings along the Santa Ana River trail, in Anaheim and Orange, looking for wildlife and beauty. I used to walk the river with my cameras during slow spells in my breaking news career at the Orange County Register or go out for mental breaks during my grad school days. For a fairly unattractive urban river, I am constantly surprised nature’s ability to create overcome the trash and concrete. I’m always excited by the surprise of a unique migrating bird.
